“The Price” opens in the Rio Theatre this weekend
A dusty attic filled with sheet draped furniture, old belongings and more than a few memories of the past surround the four characters in Arthur Miller’s timeless classic, The Price. Taking place at The Rio Theatre in Helper, the show opens March 3rd and continues through 6th, and starts again March 10th through the 13th. Curtain is at 7:30 pm, except for Sundays, which is a matinee, with curtain at 2 p.m.

The emotional piece is one that is full of food for thought. It is doubtful that any individual could leave the theatre without being touched by the timeless messages Arthur Miller puts forth.
The play is about the price of integrity, pride, and ultimately a relationship. It explores how making choices can lead us to places we never intended, and how choosing never comes without a cost. As a piece of literature, this is a riveting story that looks at important themes and values, such as materialism and family relationships.
Victor and Walter are brothers who haven’t spoken in 16 years, not since the death of their father. The demolition of their childhood home forces them to confront their inheritance, along with the past they have both tried to ignore.
Victor Franz, played by Morgan Lund, leads the show as a policeman. Paula Duesing plays his wife, Esther. The voice of reason and wisdom is found in Gregory Solomon, the furniture dealer, and is played by Ron Frederickson. Finally, the successful surgeon is played by, USU-Eastern’s, Corey Ewan.
Directed by Justin Ivy, the production is taking place at The Rio Theatre, in association with The OtherSide Players. The Rio Theatre is the only professional theatre in Eastern Utah, and is committed to providing high quality theatre to the Price/Helper area. This is the last production in The Rio’s first season of shows, and there are high hopes for the future. Grady McEvoy, USU-Eastern associate professor, designed the lighting for the show and is helping out in other aspects on the technical side. Corey Ewan is playing a character in the show and dedicating much time to the process as well. Sheraya Barajas, USU-Eastern student, is stage managing the production. She said, “It’s incredible to get the opportunity to work at a professional theatre company as a sophomore, I am learning so much from the process”.
