Lark Barney, from Alpine Utah, attends her second year at Utah State University Eastern. While attending Lone Peak High School, she was involved, with other students in the city council. She helped the mayor and other city leaders with service and additional projects to help her community.
Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a mission was priority for Barney. She served in Detroit, Mich.
Barney enjoys involvement in community service. Her freshman year at Eastern, she was part of the SUN Center (Serving Utah Network) on campus. Upon completion of her freshman year at Eastern in 2014, she had a plan to pursue elementary education.
Spring semester, 2016, Barney began her sophomore year with a new plan. Although she has a love for children, she has decided to change her education plans to go into graphic design and will attend UVU next fall to pursue that. “You can do it from home and you can pretty much work for any company. Whether it’s making websites or designing household items, like curtains or bedspreads. And I can use photography!”
Photography is a talent that Barney practices often. “I take photos of everything, mostly people and I just do it for fun.” Barney learned Photoshop on her own at first, then took a class to help accelerate her knowledge of the program.
Allison Preston, a friend of Barney said, “Lark is possibly the kindest person I know. I have never heard Lark utter an unkind word about anyone. She is generally pretty reserved and quiet, but doesn’t ever shy away from a good conversation. She has been a great friend, and if I’m being honest a great example to me and everyone around her. Lark’s fun sense of humor and contagious laugh make her quite endearing and pleasant to be around. There is so much positive that can be said about Lark that truthfully we don’t have enough time or words to emphasize the awesomeness that is Lark. I will say this though, Lark is one of those people who you are grateful to know and you always feel better for having spent time with her.”
