Assigned seating mandatory after first week

If students have more than 10 students in class, a seating chart in Canvas will be used to track where they are sitting. Stickers will be placed on seats to indicate row letters and seat numbers.

After the first week of classes, instructors will ask students to enter their seat number in Canvas. A new “Seating Chart” link will appear on the left-hand navigation bar on student’s Canvas pages beginning Sept. 7, where theywill enter their final seat selection.

Students must sit in the same seat

for the rest of the semester

This is extremely important for tracking cases of COVID-19 and helping classes remain in person, wrote Provost and Vice President Frank Galey.

If a student class has a lab, recitation section, or uses a second classroom, they will enter a second seat assigment.

If a students adds a class after the second week or are absent when the instructor directs students to enter seat assignments, please communicate with your instructor and they must select a seat in Canvas based on what remains available.

Green-Red-Orange Class Status

There are courses where USU’s Case Containment Team identifies multiple active cases of COVID-19. USUs goal is to reduce their disruption of in-person classes as much as possible using this process.

Students will receive an announcement in Canvas whenever one of their courses has a change in status. Students should install the MyUSU and Canvas apps on their phone so they are notified as quickly as possible. Green Status: Normal

Classes are held face-to-face as scheduled. If a studet’s class is in green status, but the student is in self-isolation or quarantine, the instructor will make accommodations so their learning is not disrupted.

Red Status: Remote Delivery Only

If there are too many active cases or exposures to contain through quarantining individual students, a class will be required to go temporarily remote via Zoom.

All students will attend this class via Zoom until USU Case Containment has completed the classroom exposure investigation. During the investigative process, Case Containment investigators will contact those exposed.

If you are fully vaccinated, you do NOT need to quarantine after contact with someone who had COVID-19 unless you have symptoms. However, fully vaccinated people should get tested 3-5 days after exposure, even if you don’t have symptoms, and wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until your test result is negative.

Instructors will hold class via Zoom at the regularly scheduled day/time and provide a Zoom link to students via Canvas.

Orange Status: Recovery in Progress

The class may return to face-to-face teaching as soon as the instructor is cleared by the Case Containment Team. As individual students are cleared by case containment, they may return to class. The instructor will accommodate students not attending in-person by providing recorded lectures and online course material.

The class will return to green status when the current risk has been addressed.
