Janelle chatter, goes above her essay
Janelle Bates, who graduates with an English degree and is news editor of this newspaper, submitted
the following nature essay anonymously to Sigma Tau Delta last October.
The essay was accepted for presentation and Bates presented it at the Sigma Tau Delta International
Honor Society’s annual convention in Atlanta on April 1.
“I’ve always been an animal lover and considered myself to be an environmentalist since I was 11,”
Bates said. “I lived on the Texas/Oklahoma border for three years. I consider myself an amateur writer
and would someday love to be a nature writer.”
In the meantime, Bates has been accepted to the USU’s Master of Technical Communication program
and will begin her studies this summer.
