“Five Nights at Freddy’s” makes its debut

“Five Nights at Freddy’s” has been a long-awaited movie for those who discovered the indie horror game in 2014. “Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Movie,” directed by Emma Tammi and starring Josh Hutcherson, was released on October twenty-seventh of this year by Blumhouse Productions. Blumhouse, known for producing movies such as “The Purge,” “Paranormal Activity,” “Megan,” “Black Phone,” “Happy Death Day,” “Insidious,” “Split,” “US,” and a few Halloween sequels, has also produced this film. The “Five Nights at Freddy’s” movie is based on the game that came out in 2014 and was created by Scott Cawthon, who had a significant hand in the writing process of the movie.

The story of the first game is that you work as a security guard at a children’s pizzeria with animatronics, very similar to Chuck-E-Cheese. The twist in the game is that the animatronics are possessed by the souls of dead children who were stuffed into the suits. Now, they are coming to try and stuff the security guard into a suit, which will end up killing them. As the security guard, you need to defend yourself by closing doors and managing power from midnight until six in the morning. That is the first game, and the franchise has expanded exponentially with six main games, a few spinoff games, and a VR game, with another one on the way.

The “Five Nights at Freddy’s” movie incorporated storylines from multiple games into one film. The story begins with Mike Schmitt (played by Josh Hutcherson), a troubled young adult who struggles to keep a job. He takes a job offered by Steve Raglan/William Afton (played by Matthew Lillard, popular for his performance in “Scream”) as a security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria to take care of his sister. Mike starts to notice that his dreams of his brother being kidnapped are the most vivid when he’s in Freddy’s. He also meets other children in his dreams who turn out to be the souls occupying the suits of the animatronics. Now, Mike uses the help of these ghost children to try to figure out who his brother’s kidnapper is. But little does Mike know that Vanessa, a police officer who knows a lot about Freddy’s, is keeping secrets from him. The “Five Nights at Freddy’s” universe has extensive lore that would take an entire book to explain, and only true fans know the lore. For people who don’t understand the lore, the movie may be a bit random, but the plot is still understandable. The movie didn’t do well among Hollywood critics who didn’t understand the cultural influence it had on many people throughout the years. The good news is that the movie did well with the audience and has already made over 230 million dollars worldwide. What’s even more impressive is that the budget was 20 million. As someone who has followed the lore since 2014, having been addicted to the internet at the age, I believe that the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” movie was successful
