Gallery East Director, Brent Haddock was “surprised at how many artists are combining multiple techniques in their printmaking … I’m surprised at how colorful the pieces are; usually they’re black and white.”
Lloyd Menard, exhibit juror, describes the variation of the prints in the exhibit’s brochure. “There were 13 intaglios, 5 reliefs, and 2 lithographs; the remaining 19 pieces were mixed media.

College of Eastern Utah’s Gallery East begins the new semester with a traveling print exhibit furnished by the Southern Graphics Council. The exhibit will run from January 9 through 26.
“This indicates that many printmakers are crossing over into different areas, and experimenting in order to express themselves.”
Menard found it difficult to select pieces for the traveling exhibit. ” … 81 artists had submitted a total of 237 pieces for the show, which seemed very low considering there are over 1,000 members in SGC.”
“However, if just half of those members submitted artwork, then the jurying task, which is already a difficult undertaking … would have been nearly impossible … ”
According to April Katz, exhibition coordinator, “35 artists from 21 states and three artists from Canada are included in the show.”
The Southern Graphics Council uses the traveling exhibition as one of its primary tools for promoting printmaking.
The exhibit will travel across the United States until 2006.
The exhibit is being featured in Gallery East, which is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm, closed school holidays.
Gallery East is located in the northwest corner of the SAC building, just east of the Library, with an external entrance facing the library.
The exhibit’s showing at Gallery East is made possible by the generous support of the College of Eastern Utah, Utah Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts, Washington D.C.
