Volunteer Spotlight

Kimberly Jenks is a freshman from San Diego, Calif. She moved to Price and graduated from Carbon High in 2004. Jenks has two sisters and five brothers and is the fifth of the eight children. She is majoring in communications and hopes to one day work for a non-profit organization. She enjoys singing, being involved in theatre, reading and doing volunteer work. Jenks is also Miss Carbon County, which keeps her busy in the community. Her platform for Miss Carbon County is youth with mental illness and she volunteers countless hours to her cause.
Jenks serves as a SUN Center student leader over the Frontier Project Mentors. “We work with the Frontier Project and Four Corners Mental Health to mentor children with mental illnesses. We meet with a child weekly, set goals, and help them function in the day-to-day world.” Jenks is also working on an American Cancer Society fundraising project in which they sell daffodils to raise money. Jenks says she does service because, “I think it keeps you in perspective of the importance of helping others and what’s truly important in life.”
Kathy Murray, SUN Center director, enjoys working with Jenks. “Kim is very organized, efficient, and self-motivated. I am very impressed with her work on the Frontier Project.”
