Pageant place: Mr. & Miss CEU review
The Mr. and Miss CEU pageants afforded an entertaining opportunity to deviate from the usual movie in the dorms or bonfire and provided CEU students an occasion to become culturally well-rounded. Both nights were eventful in their own unique ways. The ladies competition was of a more serious measure and was difficult for the male species to comprehend what was going on. The men, or at least we all hope they are men, were very funny for everyone. For that reason I give the Miss CEU pageant one thumbs up and Mr. CEU two thumbs up.

Although I’m not quite sure what the purpose of some of the events were, I was impressed with the talent portion of the Miss CEU pageant. It had everything from dancing and ballet performances to creative and witty skits. And, of course, you can’t forget the remarkable talent that was shared by this year’s Miss CEU Jesi Gurney as she mesmerized the crowd by playing the guitar and singing at the same time. Gurney really proved she deserved to be this year’s winner.
The Mr. CEU pageant was entertaining. The people in the audience were probably more embarrassed than the actual participants, but the 10 contestants provided a night full of hilarious amusement. The Geary Theatre felt more like a comedy club than a theatre. Right from the beginning you knew it was going to be an extremely entertaining night. If Ebert and Roeper were in attendance, they would have given the night’s performances five stars for stupidity and laugh ability.
Although each contestant did an amazing job of comical self-humiliation, K.C. Smurthwaite stole the show right from the beginning and was clearly the crowned Mr. CEU. His performances in each of the events were simply brilliant. From his initial appearance in some kind of scuba diving suit to his cunningly crafted, Obama-like speeches, the entire audience was laughing all night.
Overall I was very impressed with each contestant in both the Mr. and Ms. CEU pageants. It takes an immense amount of courage, especially in the more serious performances of the ladies, to get on stage and act in front of a large audience. Each of these contestants deserves to be commended and thanked for a couple of fun nights in Paradise Price.
