Anderson also enjoys volunteering with the SUN Center. He first became involved in service through the Kids at Heart program and continued because, “helping others makes you a better person because you benefit along with the people you’re serving.”
He serves as the student leader over the Golden Rule Mission, which is a homeless shelter located in Helper. Anderson chose the Mission because, “the people at the Mission are so grateful for the help and services we give them. It’s a very humbling experience to see the gratitude they give for such small deeds.”
Anderson’s role model is the SUN Center director, Kathy Murray. He looks up to her because, “she’s the most giving person I have ever met, and that’s a characteristic that really inspires me.” His most embarrassing moment happened when “my sister came down to visit for a weekend and my girlfriend came over to meet her. My sister decided to whip out the family home video from my 5th birthday party. I had a mullet and a really squeaky voice and it was really embarrassing.”
Kathy Murray, SUN Center director, is happy to have Anderson as a leader. “Jon is a very hardworking leader. He is very busy but he always makes time to volunteer and help the Mission with whatever they need.”
