Stasi Barton is a sophomore from Oklahoma. She moved to Utah with her family shortly after graduating from high school and came to CEU. She is the middle of six children and the only girl. Her major is history and she wants to teach in secondary education.
Barton serves as the SUN Center leader over America Reads. The America Reads program places volunteers in K-12 classrooms throughout the area to help students who need one-on-one assistance. In the past Barton has also served as the leader over Adopt-A-Neighbor, where volunteers visit elderly at the Parkdale Care Center located next to the CBB building. She enjoys America Reads because “I like working with the kids, they inspire me.”
Barton likes to snowboard, watch movies, and she belongs to the local dodge-ball league. She is also a member of SUAVAI and Kids at Heart Clubs. Her most embarrassing moment happened in high school when she got stuck in a desk. “I sat in the desk backwards and my hips got stuck. They had to get a saw to get me out, but I got out before they had to use it because it made me nervous. That’s the last time I sat in a chair backwards!”
Kathy Murray, SUN Center director, is grateful to have Barton as a leader. “She is a quiet girl, but very sweet. She does a great job over the America Reads program. She is very involved with the children she works with and is really making a difference for them,” Murray commented.
