Caitlin Patterson a freshman at USU Eastern, is in charge of the Green Team. The Green Team is a recycling organization that has been around USU Eastern for about three years. Patterson became the leader of the Green Team in fall semester of 2011.
Her job is to be responsible for picking up any recyclable items on campus. She has managed to get USU Eastern their own recycling trailer, acquire more recycling bins throughout different buildings and also in the dorms. She is also working on attaining an e-waste bin as well.
There are seven trailers in the Carbon County area; “the trailers are rotated around the city every week or so,” Patterson said. People can donate paper and also cardboard; the items one cannot donate are glass, aluminum or shredded paper. “Shredded paper is just too messy, but students who live in the dorms can recycle aluminum soda cans; there are specific bins for those,” she added.
“Green Team is made up of about ten volunteers give or take, and we pick up recyclable items every Tuesday,” Patterson said.
To find out where people wanted more bins and also where paper needed to be picked up; Patterson sent out a campus e-mail and listened to anyone who had something to say. “I’m open to any ideas from students,” she added.
“The reason I decided to become the leader of the Green Team is because I like to recycle, I care about our Earth,” Patterson said.
