Dodger fans were given some hope this offseason when a mandate was given for the April 30 sell of the Dodgers for current owner Frank McCourt. After payroll issues, security issues and management being unable to make any big acquisitions this offseason, the city of L.A. seemed to be turning to the Angels with their glamorous free agents Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson.

Magic Johnson is part of the new ownership and Los Angeles’ boys in blue seemed to have a new lifeline. Dodger fans were given some hope this offseason when a mandate was given for the April 30 sell of the Dodgers for current owner Frank McCourt. After payroll issues, security issues and management being unable to make any big acquisitions this offseason, the city of L.A. seemed to be turning to the Angels with their glamorous free agents Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson.
The selling of the Dodgers was agreed upon shortly before opening day. L.A. is looking to the future and the players have showed them that the future is now. Led by M.V.P. runner-up Matt Kemp, the boys in blue have just one loss in 10 games. Kemp has a chip on his shoulder and wants to secure the M.V.P. award for himself and a World Series title for his team. So far so good, through Sunday’s action, Kemp has 6 HR’s, 16 RBI’s and a .487 batting average. Kemp appears unstoppable.
Reigning Cy Young-award winner, Clayton Kershaw, battled a stomach flu in his first start and was hardly 100 percent in his second and seemed to have still been struggling in his latest appearance only going 5 1/3 innings yet, once again, the team has come together and pulled out a magical win with Dee Gordon’s walk off base hit.
Ned Colletti put together what appeared like a lukewarm effort at a winning team with veterans Adam Kennedy and Mark Ellis and pitchers Chris Capuano and Aaron Harang among others weren’t exactly the big market free agents Dodger fans were hoping for, but they seem to be key pieces to the puzzle. Mark Ellis’ average isn’t high by any standards however that is because he is too wrapped up in the interests of the team moving lead off speedster Dee Gordon from base to base selflessly.
These among many other things are bringing this historic franchise back to its glory days with its best start since the 1981 World Series team. The Dodgers are no longer in the L.A. Times for their ownership issues and McCourt’s divorce settlements. The Dodgers have proven thus far that all they needed was a little “Magic” and the fans the bleed blue certainly have a Cinderella story so far in 2012.
