The National Junior College Athletic
Association (NJCAA) has honored two USU Eastern athletes who made the NJCAA All-American teams. Priscila Santos of Sao Paulo,
Brazil and Chase Flint of Kaysville, Utah were this year’s recipients of first team All-American, and honorable mention All-American respectively.
Both athletes commented on their reaction to the award. Santos said, “I was very surprised when I found out. I was very thankful to God; he has given me the best season of my life. Just being able to play and be with my team has been a blessing. All these awards have been pretty neat. I am thankful to God for all the goodness that comes from him. This surprise was just another present from him.” Flint said, “I was excited, I felt like a lot of my hard work has paid off.”
Each athlete has an opportunity to continue on. “I’m still waiting to hear from the clearinghouse from NCAA. I’d love to go play division one, if not I’ll finish my degree and go to a NAIA school. I’m still not sure where I’m going, just waiting for answers,” said Santos. Flint comment, “I have no idea.”
Continuing education is a factor in their future. Santos said, “I’m thinking about studying international relations or something. I want to work with humanitarian aid.” Flint plans to do, “Something in business. I’m not sure but something in that.”
Santos was very grateful to her team and coaches. “I think the team and coaches were a big part of what happen for me this season. All the girls and all their love and support through all the season was key, and especially Coach Paur. God is first, then my team. The girls are a blessing in my life. I will always miss this team and this season.”
Flint was very excited to receive this award. He shared a favorite quote of his. “Work like you don’t need the money, love like you’ve never been hurt, and dance like nobody’s watching.”
These two recipients will have their names added to the banner in the gym in the BDAC alongside those who have garnered All-American status from previous seasons.
