Earlier this semester, Tammy Auberger, director of human resources, was recognized for earning the award for USU Eastern Employee of the Quarter. Recently Auberger received more recognition when she was awarded Employee of the Year 2012 for all of USU statewide.
Auberger was in for a surprise when she received the award. She was told that she was going to be working in Logan that weekend for some sessions with the summit training and was going to be checking people in at the luncheon. She attended some of the classes then was assigned names M through Z to check in. As she was checking people in she was approached and told that she needed to go eat lunch, then sit at a table up front that was for her. She politely declined and said she could continue working, but was told that she needed to sit down. They announced all of the service awards and when they came to Employee of the Year 2012, Dave Cowley, announced Auberger’s name while Brande Faupell, executive director, presented the award. Auberger says “I was blindsided; I had no idea.”
The Employee of the Year is chosen by recommendations and by what you have accomplished throughout the year. It is a nomination by peers, supervisors, co-workers and even students. Auberger was presented with a gold diamond watch with an engraving inside and a check for $1,000.
“My first thought when getting this award was that I was glad that it was somebody from the Eastern campus. Whether it is me or someone else, I was just happy that it was for our campus. I think we have a lot of great employees here. Getting that recognition with the merger and having USU Eastern be a part of that,” she said.
Auberger is dedicated to her job and enjoys every second of it. “It made me really happy. I have done a lot of work since this merger; I have had a lot of work from a lot of people in Logan and from people here. A lot of the work I do, I can’t do without getting help from everybody. I hope that other people realize that the award is an Eastern award not just something I got.”
