I GOT A PARKING TICKET ON CAMPUS. WHAT NOW?
Parking is free on campus and compared to other college campuses our parking availability is wonderful. Parking enforcement is not a major problem for our campus officers. Violations do not occur very frequently, but when they do the most common ones we see are vehicles taking up two stalls,parking in non-designated areas such as loading zones and sidewalks, and handicap and fire lane violations.
If you come back to your vehicle to find a citation it is simple to take care of. First off, go vent to someone it will help you feel better. Feel free to complain to your friends, call your parents and even post a selfie with the ticket on your Snapchat. After you are done getting sympathy from everyone, it is time to take care of business.
The best way to take care of your ticket is to contact Carl Burnside as soon as you can. One of the many hats he wears is he is our campus ticket judge and jury. He is great to work with and for those students that are destitute, he can help work out a plan that is suitable for all parties involved.
Lastly, if you feel that you were not in the wrong there is an appeal process.
Your campus parking ticket is not an offense that you will be going to jail for. The ticket does not go on your driving record or affect your insurance. A basic campus parking ticket is only $25, and if paid within a week goes down to only $15. Parking tickets for violations of a fire/red or handicap zone have higher fees of $50 and $75 and these too if paid within a week will be reduced. If you do not take care of the ticket the University will send you reminder letters and emails and they can hold transcripts and your diploma until the balance is paid.
