Utah State University Eastern has 33 active cases of COVID-19 on campus, the most ever at one time. Fourteen percent of those students tested are testing positive as the Omicron variant  ravages the world, nation, Utah and the Price community.

Students returning to campus for face-to-face classes were advised to continue safety protocols set in place by the Center for Disease Control. COVID-19 rapid antigen tests are available once a week for no charge at the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center.

In addition, the U.S. government now provides four free COVID-19 at-home test kits. They can be ordered at COVIDtests.gov

Carbon County reports 291 active COVID-19 cases and is considered an extremely high transmission area.

Although Carbon and Emery counties are sparsely populated, there are only six hospital beds available for intensive care. That puts the community at risk.

USU Eastern Associate Vice President Greg Dart encourages students to do their part and honor the requests of the university to keep themselves and their families safe during unprecedented times.

“Please be as diligent as possible,” Dart says. “If you have any symptoms, please stay home. We encourage everyone to wear a face covering and distance as much as possible. This virus is going to spread, but there are things we can do to stay as safe as possible and we ask that you do those things.”

If students have any questions or concerns regarding COVID-19, they can access the latest coronavirus information, case counts and updates at www.usu.edu/covid-19.
