Scholarships available at USUE next semester

On Nov.15, 2023, scholarships for the 2024-2025 school year will open. Spring scholarships are still available and will be open until Dec.1, 2023. Scholarships are funds granted to individuals to help pay for school. Each scholarship is unique and has different requirements, but all scholarships require you to take action in some way.

Academic Scholarships require you to apply to the college and meet specific terms. Departmental scholarships require you to be declared in a major and apply for the scholarship. Private scholarships also require you to go through an application process. Each process is different and tailored to the scholarship.

Academic Scholarships are automatically received after applying to Utah State University Eastern and expire after meeting the two-year terms and conditions contract. These scholarships are available for incoming freshmen or transfer students only. You cannot reapply for this scholarship, but there are other scholarships you can apply for.

Departmental scholarships are directly tied to a major and can be found through the college. Many are awarded to juniors and seniors who have declared a major and are close to graduating.

Private scholarships are awarded through private organizations. They have specific terms for application, and each one has different requirements—some may ask for an essay, others for a video, and some may simply require you to fill out a form.

Private and departmental scholarships can be found through the USU scholarship portal called Scholarship Universe. Students can log in with their A-number and password. It will then take students to a questions page, which helps the program filter the scholarships specifically for the student. The more questions students answer, the more accurate the system will be.

To apply for scholarships, students can click the scholarships tab on the left-hand side of the screen. Scholarships are displayed, along with buttons at the bottom of each scholarship to help easily access more information and apply.

At the top, a pushpin icon is shown, allowing you to save the scholarship and easily find it later. The graph button shows scholarship statistics, detailing how many students have applied for this particular scholarship, how many have saved it, and how many have labeled it as not interested. This can help students decide if the work to apply for this scholarship is worth the likelihood of receiving it. The final button at the top is the not interested button; this stops the scholarship from showing up in your feed and replaces it with a new one instead.

The applications tab is located underneath the scholarships tab. This helps you keep track of the scholarships you are ready to apply for, the scholarships you have applied for, and the scholarships you have submitted. If a student ends up being awarded a scholarship, the award tab under the applications tab will be where the student can find applications requiring action and past award details.
