Library Corner

The College of Eastern Utah Library begins the 2009-2010 academic year off with a bang. Anyone lucky enough to have visited the library during the first week of the semester knows that the CEU Library’s Public Services Department headed by Aimee Lauritsen sponsored a fun and hugely successful, “Welcome Back Students” drawing for prizes. Several students visiting the library for the first time and also several returning CEU students entered the drawing. Special thanks from the library staff to all the people and departments who donated prizes for the drawing – we could not have done it without you!
The library has also made personnel changes over the summer. The reference librarian, Lori Brassaw, will interim director for this academic year. Other staff personnel will be taking on more responsibilities for each department. The library staff includes: Sherill Shaw, cataloging and systems librarian; Aimee Lauritsen, public services manager; Denise Reid acquisitions managers and assistant to the director and Vickie Wilson, serials manager and weekend supervisor.
The library itself has undergone changes in the location of some of the collection and changes in library policies in order to make the library more user-friendly. Students will also be able to find more seating available throughout the library for study group sessions as well as individual study needs.
The library is electronically accessible 24/7 for student use. In addition to remote access to the subscription databases and electronic books, systems librarian Sherill Shaw, has established CEU Library Facebook and Twitter accounts. We encourage all students, faculty and staff to become a part of the CEU Library by joining in as our friends!
A friendly reminder of our hours: Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday: 8 a.m.-5 p.m, closed Saturday. We are open Sunday 2-10 p.m. Reminder: be sure to access the library at: www.ceu.edu/library for your research needs 24/7. Contact the library at 613-5209 in order to obtain ID and password information for off-campus access to electronic library resources.
Again, a hearty and happy welcome back. Let’s make this year the best year possible.
